A wonderful vintage wine still shines in 2013
Having just come back from the 18th Annual Howell Mountain Benefit and in the mood for some tasty steak, we decided to hit the cellar for a nice vintage Cab to pair with our dinner. We chose the La Jota 2000 Cab as it was now at the far edge of its predicted prime and after a day of tasting the new releases we thought it would be a nice to finish with one that has matured. It was a perfect call as this great mountain wine had more than enough left in the tank and was a great compliment to our meal.
La Jota 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 19th Anniversary Release
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Source: Howell Mountain – Napa
La Jota has been a standout at the last few Howell Mountain tastings and have been a DdV favorite for many years. This gracefully aged big mountain wine is a fine example of the Howell Mountain terrior. On the nose subtle black cherry, herbs, and espresso greet. The draw and mid have big but nuanced cassis, plum, and dark mountain berry. Finish is long with hints of sandalwood, spice, and dark chocolate. Still plenty of power left but the subtleties really shine through after 13 years. A great pair with grilled steak or braised fare. Decant.
